Our brave men and women in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are continuing to fight against terrorism in Marawi. Such is the case with these heroic scout rangers who rescued their fellow soldiers in the heat of battle.
Marawi City has been under siege for almost two weeks now. When the Maute terrorist group took over the area, President Duterte took drastic measures by declaring Martial Law over the entire island of Mindanao. He claims that he did so in order to prevent the terrorists from reaching other parts of the island.
Recently, news about brave scout rangers who rescued at least 16 soldiers fighting off the Maute group went viral.
Former military officer Abe Purugganan shared the brave deeds and heroic actions of the scout rangers who came to their rescue. According to him, the Rangers allegedly fought for 24 hours in order to rescue the soldiers trapped inside the V150 and Simba tank which were disabled by the Maute terrorist’s RPGs.
Unfortunately, reports said that 4 soldiers died from the initial barrage. 16 of them survived and held off their attackers during the clash. The 16 soldiers waited for the scout rangers to come and rescue them from certain death.
Facebook page ‘Scout Ranger Books’ got a hold of the story and posted it on their page. They even shared the photo of one of the rescuers as well as some of the soldiers they rescued.
“Four days na silang pinned down. 20 sila lahat na Armor personnel na kasama sa isang V150 at isang SIMBA. Na RPG ng Maute ang kanilang mga mechanized vehicles. Apat ang patay nila na nasa loob. Pero nag hold the line ang mga 16 na buhay ng apat na araw. Buti na lang dumating ang First Scout Ranger Battalion na nag rescue sa kanila, style Black Hawk Down. 24 hours na bakbakan bago sila nailabas. Thanks to the Scout Rangers. (Yung two soldiers sa left, one with green shirt and the other standing, yung mga na rescue. Si Ranger Captain Erwin Ercilla, seated, right, ang isa sa mga nag rescue sa kanila.)”
